Position Summary

Amerit Fleet Solutions, one of the leading fleet maintenance companies in the US, is looking to hire a skilled Lead Diesel Mechanic! The Lead Diesel Mechanic is responsible for timely repair and maintenance of light - heavy duty fleet vehicles, trailers, and various equipment to ensure a safe and efficient operation. This position is multi-functional. Strong knowledge of the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of these three types of units. The mechanic position also requires a high level of proficiency and working knowledge related to diesel engine diagnostics, brakes, tires, AC, and PM services.

 

Compensation: Competitive Hourly Pay - Paid weekly, every Friday!

 

3rd Shift: 10:30pm - 6:00am

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Fleet manager in completing shift work
  • Able to supervise 2 or more other employees, while working
  • Must update work orders, close work orders, and work with drivers
  • Prepare vehicle records and report both manually and on a computer
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation required
  • Inspect and perform work on the under parts of vehicles
  • Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance
  • Move parts to and from the job site and remove or install these parts on vehicle
  • Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to a fleet of light-duty to heavy-duty trucks
  • The fleet also includes CAT equipment, generators, aerials, forklifts, and other equipment
  • Interact with clients through both email and phone as necessary

Key Competencies and Minimum Education

  • At least 5 years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance or must possess auto or diesel technology diploma from an accredited technical school
  • Experience with Peterbilt, Kenworth, Ford, Chevy Linde, Hyster assets preferred
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class - A (Preferred)
  • Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if operating properly
  • Must provide own hand tools & toolbox
  • Knowledge of handheld scan tools and the process of diagnosing vehicles
  • Ability to read schematics and familiar with process
  • Proficient computer skills: knowledge of Excel, Word, Fleet Management Systems, and Email
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, etc.)

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
  • Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, diesel fumes and noise.
  • Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, or other irritants
  • Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance
  • Ability to move and position heavy objects.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl to repair vehicles
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
